Amy was a daughter, a sister, a niece, a cousin, a friend, Godmother, Goddaughter, auntie, tutor, student of fine arts, athletics and chemistry.
Amy hugged and snuggled her way into each our hearts. Everyone was given hugs, her smiles so bright, her laughter so full and her love shared freely with all. Within each of us, Amy created a special connection. Amy had that magic to make ‘you’ feel special and connected to her. Amy was full of acceptance and consideration for others – overflowing with kindness, a sweet and gentle soul who spent time with all age groups.
Amy would spend time playing piano daily, creating poetry, crafting, watching movies, dinner or hanging out with friends, cuddling other peoples kittens, going for small hikes, creating digital art from online gaming and listening to many genres of music playing in her headphones. Amy was always interested in learning more about astronomy, chemistry and fine arts & crafts. Recently Amy was tutoring and teaching others about how to love chemistry and math, even teaching English, not her favorite subject.
Amy loved drives to Canmore and Cochrane and stopping to walk a trail or grab a cup of tea. While taking a drive to the countryside, the yellow of canola crops, or beauty in the mountain tops, or the colors of the fall leaves all called her name. Often we would spend time at the Farmers Markets, collecting hand created items of others.
Amy’s talents were unlimited. Amy forayed into the arts of sketching to water colors to painting, poetry and crafting gifts for family and friends. Paint a keepsake box, crochet a kitten coaster, matching your kittens of course or to crochet flowers, butterflies and squares for unique birthday gifts. Paint a water bottle or paint a picture frame. Amy would weave a basket or star of grass, plant leaves or even chive greens. The ideas were endless and perfected. Amy took the time to create that special gift – just for you. Unique, quirky and created by Amy.
Always one to compete with her older brothers, Amy was determined and strived to be like them. Amy built Lego, played online games, raced up trails, and worked hard academically. They were her role models and she looked up to them both immensely.
A natural athlete, Amy was active in many recreational sports, but her love became CMSA competitive soccer. From ages 4 to 19, Amy was the D, supporting her Keeper, and moving the ball out of the zone. Amy excelled at her role. Amy played for the W, but do not ask her the score after the game! That was not the end all and be all for her. The tournaments, the trip to Barcelona, the coaches and the parents were all part of her soccer community. Amy eventually took coaching classes and loved to be in Cochrane, coaching the little kids of the community leagues.
Educated as chemistry major, Amy was detailed, precise and very analytical. Amy loved her summer experiences working in the university chemistry labs. Amy enjoyed working with the international students in the labs and was keen to share with them Alberta’s natural beauty. Road trips were organized and she toured people through the mountains.
Chemistry and math were part of Amy’s DNA. Amy eventually began to tutor, showing others how to navigate the concepts of chemistry and math. Amy eventually taught English and social, not her strength, but a testament to her determination to assist others.
Amy will be deeply missed by our immediate and extended family, friends and co-workers. Everyone has their own special memories of Amy, and these will live in our hearts, as will the community of people who searched and rescued and eventually recovered our Amy from the Ghost River Wilderness.
May Amy’s soul rest in eternal peace, be with the angels and live in our hearts forever.
